Not everyone who has persistent pain has a specific diagnosis. If you do, and want to find out more about it, the NHS Choices website contains information CLICK HERE.

For some people, not having a clear-cut diagnosis can be a cause of anxiety. After all, it is human to search for causes and explanations. Many people think that if they have a diagnosis, others will understand their pain better. Some believe that having a diagnosis leads to more options for treatment.

However, having a diagnosis does not by itself address these issues. Understanding the many factors that play a part in persistent pain and learning about how to use self-management techniques is often much more useful than getting a label for the pain.
