Pain can get in the way of living life the way in which you want to (and/or used to). Sometimes the pain itself is the barrier – you might not be able to play sports any more for example, because it is too painful. Sometimes people work so hard on trying to get rid of the pain or to deal with it that pain becomes the centre of life & everything else goes into the background.

Pain has knocked my life off course. I can’t do what I want to do & life is not going to be what I thought it was. What do I do now?
I feel like I’m in limbo – I keep thinking “once this pain is sorted, I can get back to normal”. I am spending all my time and energy on trying to sort the pain – but I’m beginning to think I’m not getting anywhere.

An important part of pain management is to get back in touch with what is important to you and what you are asking of yourself.
